Suggested walking trips

By foot
If you decide to walk, the majority of trails are signposted all the way from the road. These trips are safe - even for those unfamiliar with the area.

For shorter trips we can recommend a local tour guide called “Stigfinnaren” (“The Trail finder”), which contains 35 different walks starting from the main road. Most of the trails are signposted by the local authorities.

If you’d prefer to go on longer walks there are several Norwegian Mountain Touring Association (DNT) routes starting at or going through Skjåk.

Of the day trips the most popular tours are to the highest mountain in Norway, Galdhøpiggen (guided tours twice daily), or the Besseggen walk. If you prefer to go it alone, there are numerous peaks and quiet valleys to choose from.
